ABOUT AIR CONDITIONERS

Air conditioners work in a similar way to a refrigerator, but whilst refrigerators cool small areas inside the unit, air conditioners work to cool larger areas within your home. Explained very basically, an air conditioning system has 3 main parts, a compressor, a condenser and an evaporator. The compressor pumps refrigerant around the system which draws hot air from the room, this passes through the condenser where the heat is removed and over the evaporator where cold air is delivered into the room. This process is reversed to allow the system to supply energy efficient heating too.

  • SPLIT AND MULTI SPLIT SYSTEMS

This is the traditional indoor/outdoor system that is most commonly used in all applications. The system comprises of a single outside unit and either 1 or more indoor units or a concealed unit in the loft area ducted to each room that requires heating and cooling. The Split System is very efficient and, if maintained correctly, will last for many years. The indoor units are available in many sizes and designs which can complement the décor in your room.

The system is very efficient and can last for many years, but they must only be installed by a QUALIFIED F GAS ENGINEER.

  • INSTALLATION DETAILS

When these systems are installed, provisions must be made for the external condenser unit. The inside units can be placed at high level in one or more rooms offering both cooling in the summer and heating in the winter. Depending on the layout of the property these systems can typically be fully installed in 2-3 days. If you are refurbishing or renovating your property it is often helpful to discuss the final layout at design stage.

Installation of this system can only be undertaken by a QUALIFIED F GAS ENGINEER

  • CONCEALED DUCTED SYSTEMS

When aesthetics is the main priority, ducted air conditioning systems are normally the first choice as both the internal unit plus the ducting/pipework are hidden above a suspended ceiling or in a roof space so all that is visible from the living area are discreet grilles.

The grilles can be located almost anywhere allowing them to blend seamlessly with the interior décor whilst providing a perfectly balanced and gentle airflow throughout the room. They can be supplied to offer an exact colour match to the internal decoration and in various styles offering stylish and inobtrusive cooling and heating.

Where to Use Ducted Air Conditioners

Ducted air conditioning is probably the quietest and most versatile of all aircon systems and can be successfully retrofitted however, they are best installed as part of a building project/refurbishment where all the relevant pipework and cabling can be hidden away, usually during the first fix stage.

We have vast experience in working with Architects, Interior Designers and Builders and we are happy plan and work alongside them and their teams to ensure smooth project delivery.

  • INSTALLATION DETAILS

    The Systems

There are 2 types of ducted systems available, a single system which controls all rooms from a single controller/air conditioning unit or a multiple system where each room enjoys its own temperature control via multiple air conditioning units.

It is recommended that, should you wish to achieve individual control over the temperature settings for each room then installing multiple ducted systems within your home is the best option. This will help avoid those inevitable temperature disputes!

    The Grilles

Grilles for ducted air conditioners are available in all shapes, sizes and colours and the decision as to which type to use is down to both performance and personal requirements. Taking these factors into consideration we are happy to guide you on the most suitable options available ensuring that the grilles not only distribute the air gently and evenly preventing hot and cold spots but also blend in with the required design of the room.

It is worth remembering that ducted aircon units require both supply (inlet) grilles and return (outlet) grilles in each room. We will advise on the size and positioning of these to obtain maximum efficiency of the system.
